Biggest Empty Net Choke of 2007

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Only a week into the year, Dallas Star Patrik Stefan has the biggest choke of the year - missing the empty net and watching as the Oilers charge back and tie the game with only two seconds left in the game:

I thought this sort of thing only happens in street hockey…

How Not to Shoot During a Shootout

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Let’s face it - The NHL shootout is a gimmick. Entertaining? Sure. Fun and exciting? Absolutely. But it just doesn’t seem quite right, especially when you see attempts like this one - courtesy of Dennis Wideman - the St. Louis Blues:

A puck in the head

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Every Monday night I play hockey. Although improving, I am really not very good. Last night, like almost every night, I took a puck in the noggin’. My Jim Kyte helmet special saved the day and, from what I can tell, a goal. I think the puck careened off of the side of my bucket, hit the goalie, hit the crossbar and then flipped to the corner. One of my first ice hockey goals was scored off of my head as I fell towards the net. My teammate later told me that he had shot at my me thinking I had a pretty good chance of deflecting the puck towards the net. “I guess I was right - Didn’t think you would fall into my shot though…” I am pretty sure I am going shopping for a new helmet this week.
